β-cadinene

β-carboline

The parent compound of the β-carbolines, a tricyclic structure comprising an indole ring system ortho - fused to C-3 and C-4 of a pyridine ring.

β-carboline alkaloid

Any indole alkaloid based on a β-carboline (9 H -pyrido[3,4- b ]indole) skeleton.

β-carbolines

Any pyridoindole containing a β-carboline skeleton and their hydrogenated derivatives

β-carotene

A cyclic carotene obtained by dimerisation of all - trans -retinol. A strongly-coloured red-orange pigment abundant in plants and fruit and the most active and important provitamin A carotenoid.

β-carotene 15,15'-epoxide

An epoxycarotenoid obtained by epoxidation across the 15,15'-double bond of β-carotene.

β-carotene 5,6-epoxide

An epoxycarotenoid of β-carotene.

β-caryophyllene

A sesquiterpene with a [7.2.0]-bicyclic structure comprising fused 9- and 4-membered rings, with a trans -ring junction, a trans -double bond between the 4- and 5-positions of the 9-membered ring, a methylidene group at position 9, and methyl groups at positions 3, 11, and 11. The most commonly occurring form is the (1 R ,9 S )-(−)-enantiomer, which is found in many essential oils, particularly clove oil.

β-casochemotide-1

A five amino acid oligopeptide fragment of the human and bovine milk protein, β-casein. It acts as an inducer of macrophage chemotaxis.

β-casomorphin-6 (human)

A six amino acid oligopeptide fragment of the human milk protein, β-casein.

β-casomorphin-6 (human)(1−)

A peptide anion obtained from the deprotonation of the two carboxy groups, and protonation of the primary amino group of human β-casomorphin-6. It is the major species at pH 7.3.

β-casomorphin-7 (human)

A seven amino acid oligopeptide fragment of the human milk protein, β-casein. It is an inhibitor of pancreatic elastase, 5-HT 2 -serotonin receptors, μ-opioid receptors and δ-opioid receptors.

β-casomorphin-7 (human)(1−)

A peptide anion obtained from the deprotonation of the two carboxy groups, and protonation of the primary amino group of human β-casomorphin-7. It is the major species at pH 7.3.

β-cellobiose

A cellobiose with β configuration at the reducing-end glucose residue.

β-cellopentaose

A cellopentaose in which the anomeric centre at the reducing end has β-configuration.

β-cellotriose

A cellotriose with a β-configuration at the anomeric position.

β-chamigrene

A carbobicyclic compound and sesquiterpene that is spiro[5.5]undec-2-ene which is substituted by a methylidene group at position 11 and by methyl groups at positions 3, 7 and 7.

β-chrysopine

A chrysopine formally derived from β- D -fructopyranose.

β-citryl- L -glutamyl- L -glutamate

The conjugate base of β-citryl- L -glutamyl- L -glutamic acid obtained from deprotonation of the carboxy groups; major species at pH 7.3.

β-citryl-Glu-Glu

A dipeptide that is Glu-Glu in which one of the amino terminal hydrogens is replaced by a β-citryl group.

β-citrylglutamate(4−)

A tetracarboxylic acid anion obtained by deprotonation of the four carboxy groups of β-citrylglutamic acid; major species at pH 7.3.

β-citrylglutamic acid

An N -acyl- L -glutamic acid in which the acyl group is specified as β-citryl.

β-colubrine

A monoterpenoid indole alkaloid that is strychnine in which the hydrogen at position 2 has been replaced by a methoxy group. It is a minor alkaloid from Strychnos nux-vomica .
